Pools Reserves did their chances of running out winners of the Pontins Holiday Division One East no harm by beating Sheffield United 5-2 at The Vic this afternoon.

Two goals from David Foley and strikes from Matty Tymon, Martin Young and Craig Gott made sure of the win for Ian Butterworth's men in this game of two halves.

Although Sheffield United took the lead in the twelfth minute when Jordan Robertson broke through the defence to prod home past Jan Budtz, Pools soon took hold of the game, hitting all five of their goals inside the first forty-five.

Just five minutes after the visitors took the lead, Butterworth's men were on level terms - a good run down the right wing from Godwin Antwi saw the right back push on to the by-line before squaring the ball into a crowded penalty area where Matty Tymon stepped up to poke home.

With twenty-one minutes gone, Pools were ahead; Martin Young made a good run into the box before squaring a ball into the path of David Foley and the tricky forward managed to poke the ball back past the defender for Young who slotted home from a tight angle to make it 2-1.

Five minutes passed before it was 3-1 and this time it was Foley who hit home - the pacy forward burst through on goal in a central position before firing a powerful low drive through the area which skimmed the surface before hitting the back of the net from 25 yards out.

When Tymon picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch and began to push in on goal, it looked certain that number four was on the cards and, when Foley picked up the ball on the edge of the box, he twisted and turned his was past four defenders before calmly hitting home to make it 4-1.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Pools wrapped up their scoring and did it in some style - Foley played the ball to Craig Gott on the edge of the area and he curled a great ball which went high over the keeper and dipped into the back of the net.

After such an entertaining first half, the second period had a lot to live up to and it was always going to be hard for Pools to maintain that kind of pressure.

Sheffield United made three changes at half time and came out a much tighter unit and, subsequently, there was only one goal scored in the second forty-five - with The Blades adding to their tally.

Two of their substitutes combined for the goal - Aymen Tahar fed the ball through for youngster Jack Adams and he lifted the ball over the on-rushing Jan Budtz to make it 5-2.

Budtz made a couple of good saves in the closing minutes of the games to deny The Blades but Pools victory never looked in doubt.

Sheffield United were reduced to ten men when Tahar was giving his marching orders for an off-the-ball incident late in the game but there was no time for Pools to take advantage and the match finished 5-2 to Butterworth's men.
