Pools Reserves suffered defeat at the hands of Hull City for the second time this season despite taking the lead this afternoon.

Ian Butterworth's young side made a positive start to the game and were denied what looked a penalty inside the first five minutes when Matty Tymon's shot appeared to be handled on the line.

However, they didn't feel sorry for themselves for too long and quickly found themselves in front. Michael Rae chested down a ball forward to Jonny Rowell who threaded a ball through for David Foley and the young striker evaded the offside trap to fire home.

However, Pools were only in front for little over ten minutes when Stephen McPhee equalised for the hosts.

After the break, Hull's experience began to tell and Arran Lee-Barrett had been called in to action on a few occasions before he was finally beaten twenty minutes from time by Nathan Doyle.

Pools could have rescued a point from the contest late on but Tymon's shot was well-blocked on the line by Sam Collins.

"It was a decent game for us in terms of experience for our younger players," Butterworth commented.

"I think around seven of their team have been in the First Team there so it was a real test for us and one the lads did well in, especially in the first half.

"It's got to be good for Craig Gott and Joe Tait to be pitting their wits against the likes of Jay Jay Okocha, Nicky Barmby and Stephen McPhee.

"I think in the second half their strength told but overall I'm pretty satisfied with the boys."
