Butterworth Rues Game Of Two Halves
Ian Butterworth said the old football cliche of goals changing games haunted his side in their opening Reserve fixture of the new season.
Pools went down 1-0 to Hull City at Victoria Park after a second half penalty by striker Stephen McPhee.
"We had a very young side out against a very experience Hull line-up," Butterworth commented.
"But I felt we completely dominated in the first half - it was refreshing to see and we should have had a couple of goals to show for it.
"However, as we often see in football goals have an affect on games and when we missed our penalty it affected us and we never really recovered.
"Then Arran (Lee-Barrett) has a had a rush of blood and given away a penalty and from there on Hull looked much better.
"The young players will learn from that hopefully as that's what they're here to do - we haven't got to feel sorry for ourselves after we go behind."
