The 6ft 5ins Icelandic international was signed by Chris Turner in August 2009 from Norwegian outfit SK Brann.
Comfortable in either the centre of defence or up front, his physical presence is one of the main attributes he offers to the squad.
Having been capped by Iceland in the past, the powerful star is hoping that a move to England can help push him back in to the frame for international honours.
His move from Norway represents another breakthrough for the Club's scouting network in the country following the arrival of Jon-Andre Fredriksen in July.
While his height indicates that of a target man, Bjornsson is more comfortable with the ball played to his chest, feet or thigh than his head and has shown himself to be more than effective when given the service.
He scored his first goal for the Club at Carlisle in December 2009 but due to the competition in attack he was limited to just ten league starts in his first season at The Vic.
