Plucked from non-league football by Pools in February 2007, the lightning-quick Mackay has shown flashes of developing in to a potent striker.
His goals record for former clubs Birtley, Durham City and Consett was nothing short of frightening and he was top of the Northern League goalscoring charts when then boss Danny Wilson took a gamble on him.
His pace is his real asset though he has shown glimpses of the clinical finishing which earned him his fearsome non-league reputation, most notably with a Goal of the Season contender at Yeovil in December 2007 and a beautiful lobbed goal at Oldham the following March.
Michael was allowed to leave the Club on a half-season loan to join Blue Square Conference Premier outfit Gateshead in August.
