The midfielder signed a new deal during the latter part of the 2007/2008 season to commit his future to the Club.
With competition fierce in the centre of the park, Sweeney found himself asked to operate on the right-wing or even at right-back on occasions last season.
His non-stop running and limitless energy means he is just as likely to appear in his own box with a crucial tackle as he is in the opponents' area to score a goal.
After tying himself to the Club, Sweeney will be looking to ensure a regular First Team place during the 2008/2009 campaign.
