Hartlepool United's on-fire frontmen are ready to gun down League One big shots Leeds United.

Pools go into Saturday's mouth-watering clash at Elland Road on the back of another goal-laden display last night - this time firing three past Chesterfield to cruise into round two of the Johnstone's Paints Trophy.

A brilliant double from James Brown and a stunning David Foley cannon took their goal tally to seven in four days and 15 from seven matches so far this season.

With fellow frontmen Richard Barker, Ian Moore and Joel Porter all off the mark for the season already, Pools head to Leeds full of confidence as well as firepower, according to Victoria Park boss Danny Wilson.

"There was a question labelled against us earlier in the season about where the goals would come from," Wilson said.

"Well, they are coming from everywhere at the moment.

"We have strikers looking sharp and in amongst the goals - they are looking confident.

"We had four strikers on the park on Saturday (in the 4-1 win over Oldham) and then again last night.

"Sometimes you have to play to your strengths, if you have that threat you have to use it.

"We had some good performances last night and there will be some thinking to do for Saturday."

Danny Wilson, the Hartlepool United manager, didn't have far to go last night after securing a simple victory at Chesterfield.

Wilson still lives in the town where he played in the early 1980s and will have been home in time for a celebratory pint in his local after seeing his side coast to victory.

Two goals from James Brown and a strike from David Foley earned a spot in Saturday's draw for round two of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Forced to field the majority of players who have appeared in League One this season under competition rules, Wilson made as many changes as he could.

But they didn't disrupt the flow as Pools made enjoyed another victory amid an encouraging and successful start to the season.

Hartlepool comfortably progressed in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - but despite a comprehensive victory, boss Danny Wilson was keen to pick out the faults.

Two goals from James Brown on top of a clinical opener from David Foley saw Pools home in style at the Recreation Ground as they demonstrated the gulf between Leagues One and Two.

The pick of Pools' bunch was Brown's first - Pools second.

He took the ball from a short corner, worked his way into the area and chipped in from a tight angle to deceive the home rearguard.

But, at 3-0 in front, Pools eased off and allowed Chesterfield a goal back through veteran Wayne Allison.

It infuriated Wilson and, despite a comprehensive display ahead of Saturday's big game at Leeds United, the Pools boss was critical of his charges.

"It's a performance I am pleased with in lots and lots of aspects, of course I am," he said.

"Possession-wise and the amount of chances we created is very pleasing. We had the lion's share of possession, but I'm disappointed that towards the end we conceded a goal.

"It might sound harsh after a performance like that, but for 20 minutes at the end we were sloppy.

"In saying that, it's only a minor complaint because to come away from home and score three goals is a good thing. If we were a bit more clinical we could have run up a big score."
