Bunch Of Fives: Scott Flinders

Posted on: Tue 20 Dec 2011

Here we give you the opportunity to enjoy our Bunch Of Fives feature which is new to Matchday Programme 'Never Say Die' this season.

This article with Scott Flinders was first published in the issue for our game with Wycombe Wanderers in October.

We place keeper Scott Flinders in the hotseat and fire random questions at him on a number of subjects to see what he comes up with…

At The Movies

1 What was the last film you went to see?
"It was The Inbetweeners and I wasn't as good I was expecting it to be - I was a little bit disappointed to be honest."

3 Do you choose the film or does your other half?
"No, I always choose the film. If I go with Kate (my girlfriend) and she picks it she always comes up with a chick flick and I'm not particularly into that. I prefer my comedies or a bit of action."

5 If you could play the lead role in one film what would it be?
"It would definitely be Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly in Back To The Future. I would go for the first film and he was a childhood hero for me!"

7 What's your favourite movie soundtrack?
"I really like the Inception theme music - in fact, I've got it on my phone at the moment. I think it's by the same composer who did the Batman music, a fella called Hans Zimmer."

10 Who would be your leading lady?
"I would have to say, back in the day it would be Sandra Bullock from here role in the Speed films. The whole package was there in that role and that was up there with the best."

Holidays and Travelling

1 What's the favourite place you've visited?
"It's got to be Vegas. It's just everything about it really - it's like an adult playground where you can do everything you want and it's there for you day and night."

4 What has been your best holiday?
"Well, last year we went to LA and Vegas and did all that and I really liked Hollywood. In fact, it's the kind of place I would love to see myself retiring too for the lifestyle that goes with living there by the beach."

8 What's the nicest hotel you've ever stayed in?
"That would be The Wynn in Vegas. The rooms are just unbelievable and you can't explain how top quality everything is from the rooms down to the casinos and swimming pools."

9 Beach or pool?
"Beach. We go to Portugal quite often and I love going out in the sea on the bodyboard. When I was younger my family used to take me on beach holidays so I guess that's the way I've been brought up."

10 Lazy by the pool or out looking for adventure?
"Lazy by the pool. I like to relax and listen to some tunes on my ipod really. I'm not in to sight-seeing, I prefer to just relax. Though now we have a young son (Jake) I'm not sure I'll get to do much of that!"

Football

1 What position do you play when you were at school?
"I was a right-back - and I was absolutely horrendous. I used to play for my brother's team; he was two years older than me but they would let me come on for the last couple of minutes! My dad then set up a Sunday League team and he was a keeper so I told him I wanted to be like him. He told me then that I would never make it as a keeper which is something we have a laugh about quite regularly!"

2 Which team did you support growing up?
"I was a Sheffield Wednesday supporter. I had a Season Ticket and went there with my Godfather, who was a massive Wednesday fan. It's strange how it happened because both my dad and my brother are Leeds fans."

5 When did you first think you had a chance of turning pro?
"Probably when I was a second year scholar. We were in administration and weren't allowed to sign another goalkeeper but that's when I really thought I had a chance."

8 If you could have played in one game through history, which would it be?
"I saw this question the other week and thought it was a good one! I think it would be when England played Scotland in Euro 96. I remember vividly watching the game and could tell you exactly where I was and everything - it's always stuck with me. David Seaman saved a penalty and I remember thinking it would be a great game to play in."

10 Have you ever scored an own goal?
"No, I haven't - touch wood! I have scored a normal goal though…"

Food and Drink

2 What's your favourite alcoholic drink?
"It would have to Bud 66 - it's both light and refreshing!"

3 If you buy a bottle, do you ask for a glass?
"No, never."

4 What's your speciality in the kitchen?
"Well, since we had Jake I usually look after him and Kate does a lot of the cooking. But if I'm called upon I can cook anything really - I do like Mexican though so I would go for a jambalaya or something like that."

5 Your last meal on earth, what would you choose?
"I would go for Kate's mum's Sunday Dinner! My mum does beef like boot leather but Kate's mum does the best dinner ever!"

10 Which drink leaves you with the most unpleasant hangover?
"Sambuca. I try to stay away from that but sometimes you get roped in to it when you're out with the lads!"

Random

1 Before you started answering our questions, what were you doing?
"Driving. We are on our way to Manchester to watch Peter Kaye tonight."

5 Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of bees?
"A big bear. I hate bees and wasps! I would rather get eaten by the bear than have to take on the bees!"

8 If you had the chance, would you want to rule the world?
"No. Everybody wouldn't ever agree with what you had to say so it wouldn't be for me. I'm quite happy with the quiet life I have now!"

9 Who is the funniest person you know?
"It would have to be Danny Butterfield. He's the funniest person to be around, his banter is brilliant. I had a bad time at Crystal Palace really but he would crack me up and made it a lot better!"

10 What time do you get up in the morning?
"Usually about 7am but now we have Jake I am usually up once during the early hours as well. Before we had a child, I would say me and Kate would easily laze in bed until about 11am - even on a match day!"
