We'll Take Trophy Seriously - Wadsworth

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Mick Wadsworth has insisted that Pools will be taking the Johnstone's Paint Trophy very seriously when they welcome Northampton Town to Victoria Park for Round One this evening (7pm kick-off).

Both teams are expected to make several changes to their starting line-up and will admit that the tournament is not top of their priority list for the season.

But having experienced a trip to Wembley during his spell as Manager at Carlisle, Wadsworth is keen to make progress tonight.

"We played in front of nearly 100,000 people when we got to Wembley with Carlisle in 1995," he explained.

"And although we lost to a Golden Goal it was still one of the biggest occasions in the club's history and a very rewarding time for the players and supporters.

"My philosophy has always been that if you're in a competition that you should try and do as well as you possibly can so we won't be taking it lightly.

"We know there are certain rules laid down in regards to team selection and it seems we're under stricter rules in the lower divisions in that respect.

"But any team we put out will be going for the win and hopefully entertaining the crowd at the same time."
