Pools Youth Team Beat Grimsby Town

Posted on: Tue 31 Aug 2010

Pools Youth Team made it two wins from three when they defeated Grimsby Town 2-1 at Chester-le-Street on Saturday morning.

The damage was done in the first half when Micky Barron's youngsters were quickly out of the traps and began to dominate their visitors.

A reward for their pressure arrived as early as the seventh minute when Jordan Richards' free-kick was headed home by Nathan Buddle.

Pools continue to play some high tempo, passing football which kept Grimsby on the back foot for most of the opening period.

And the second goal arrived just on the stroke of half time when Callam Hassan fired in to the net from the rebound after his first effort had been saved.

A strong wind helped Grimsby get back in to the game in the second half and Pools had to be resolute in defence to hang on for the victory.

Town did pull a goal back to give themselves a chance of a comeback but Barron's men stood firm and recorded another well-earned three points.

"We won the game in the first half by playing some great football," Barron told us.

"We passed the ball well and with a bit more composure in the final third we could have made things a bit more comfortable.

"But overall we've got the win and I'm very pleased with the effort and commitment the lads have been showing so far."
