Youth Team Lose Season Opener

Posted on: Mon 16 Aug 2010

Pools Youth Team lost their opening Youth Alliance game of the season with Notts County 3-2.

After a strong pre season, which included a good run in the Milk Cup, Micky Barron was left slightly disappointed with the opening result.

Pools started well, with a good chance for Callum Hassan inside the first ten minutes but they struggled to create anything to really test Notts County until the dying minutes of the half.

In the final five minutes of the first half, Hassan headed another effort over the bar and Daniel Johnson struck a great freekick which hit the bar.

It was the visitors who went into the second half with a 1-0 lead but Pools were soon level when Jordan Mellish headed home from a corner.

Two more goals from Notts County, including a freekick which went in from 22 yards, gave Pools a lot of work to do.

But Barron's side continued to push on and Michael Pearson pulled another good save from the County keeper who was strong throughout the game.

Pools had 15 corner kicks in the second half but were left disappointed as only one was converted early in the half by Mellish.

Barron's outfit grabbed a late consolation through Steven Snaith in the 89th minute but lost the game 3-2.

Final Score: Pools 2 Notts County 3

Pools: Mooney, Pearson, Rowbotham, Richards, Mellish, Buddle, Wilson (Charlton 68), Hawkins (Snaith 71), Hassan, Dodds (Rutherford 60), Johnson
Subs Not Used: Selby
