Chris Turner heaped praise on his hard-working players after a stylish Carling Cup victory over Sheffield United at Victoria Park.

The result rarely looked in doubt after James Brown fired home the opener inside ten minutes and Adam Boyd's second half penalty sealed a place in Round Two.

"I thought the team played well tonight," he told Pools Player.

"There was a great work ethic, good energy and solid organisation just as there was on Saturday - I know they had players missing but I just thought we looked better than them.

"To be perfectly honest I thought we fully deserved the win and I don't think they really troubled us throughout the game.

"Everyone played well but I thought Tony Sweeney was back to his best ever - his runs forward getting in behind them were dangerous and hopefully he can start getting in among the goals soon."
