Chris Turner has admitted that the excitement is reaching fever pitch within the Pools squad as the first game of the new League One season looms large.

Pools travel to face division new boys Rochdale at Spotland on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and Turner is expecting a tough test but an enjoyable start to the campaign.

"I think it will be a great afternoon for League One," Turner told Pools Player.

"It is Rochdale's first game in this division for quite some time so I know they will be up for it, there's no doubt about that.

"From our point of view, the majority of our players have been together for at least twelve months, they know what this division is all about and we expect them to perform.

"As ever, there's a real excitement about the new season - we all start on a level playing field and everyone is determined to get their first win on board.

"I'm really looking forward to it and I know the players are too so we just have to go out there and battle for every point we can get."
