Good Workout For Pools In York Friendly

Posted on: Sat 31 Jul 2010

Pools rounded off their pre season campaign with a draw following a competitive workout against York City.

Pools had gone in front through Sam Collins inside five minutes but City equalised just before the break and honours were even at the end.

It was the Pools' skipper's second goal in as many games when he volleyed home Fabian Yantorno's left-wing corner and it looked like Pools could further their lead after a dominant start at Bootham Crescent.

Leon McSweeney could have doubled the lead when he got on the end of a flowing move but he headed Evan Horwood's cross just over the bar.

And that miss was punished as the break approached when City's ace striker Richard Brodie headed a cross in at the near post which somehow squirmed through Scott Flinders' grasp and into the net.

Pools had the majority of the chances in the second period but Joe Gamble's volley was brilliantly saved by Michael Ingham and then Antony Sweeney saw his well-struck shot held.

Sub Armann Bjornsson almost stole a winner at the death but he crashed a header against the crossbar after a brilliant turn and cross from Adam Boyd.

The work out will have been just what Chris Turner will have expected and wanted with just seven days to go until the start of the League One campaign.
