Traillist Horwood Nets In Dutch Draw

Posted on: Thu 15 Jul 2010

Pools drew their final game of the Dutch tour after an entertaining game with the Jupiler outfit FC Den Bosch.

The game was filled with chances, with Antony Sweeney drawing a fine save from keeper Brahim Zaari in the opening minutes and Andy Monkhouse also almost going clean through on goal.

John Verhoek was Den Bosch's main threat and his good chest control and volley brought Scott Flinders into the game.

Gary Liddle's foul on Verhoek saw the game's first yellow card and from the freekick, Wilmer Kousemaker struck the bar and, as the ball rebounded out, volleyed wide.

Sweeney tested the keeper again moments later but then Pools had Flinders to thank for two fine saves, both from Den Bosch's new signing Verhoek.

The best chance of the half came when Istvan Bakx beat the offside trap but stabbed an effort wide as Flinders rushed out.

Fabian Yantorno headed over from close range early in the second half before Evan Horwood put Pools one-up with a deflected strike from 25 yards.

The lead didn't last long; three minutes later Samuel Scheimann danced forward from full back and wriggled in on goal to produce a fine finish.

Mohamed El Makrini saw a cross shot hit the post and Flinders was again alert to foil Den Bosch from the rebound.

An entertaining game on the eye and perhaps a draw was a fair result.
