Hartlepool United will face Sheffield United at Victoria Park in the First Round of the Carling Cup.

The draw, which was made this morning, pits Pools against The Blades for the first time since the 1992/93 season when the sides met in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Sheffield United won 1-0 on that occasion, with an Alan Cork goal then separating the sides.

Championship outfit United have not visited The Vic since August 1988 when the teams met in the First Round of the League Cup and the game ended 2-2, forcing a replay.

Pools were drawn away at Coventry at this stage in the competition last season and went on to win the game 1-0 - an extra time strike from Adam Boyd capping a strong performance.

The Second Round tie with then Premier League outfit Burnley at The Vic also went to extra time but this time Pools lost out 2-1, despite a great effort from Turner's men.

The game will be played in the week beginning 9th August.
