What's In A Name: Jon-Andre Fredriksen

Posted on: Wed 26 May 2010

We quiz the Norwegian import on his life at Pools, both on and off the pitch.

This article was first published in the Club's Matchday Programme 'Never Say Die'.

F is for Football History

"I've always been in to football since I was a small boy and it's always been an important thing in my life. I went to play for a club called Raade when I was seven and did well. My father helped me and always supported me and I did well when I played enough to get picked for the national side at Under 16 level, which was fantastic."

R is for Relocating to England

"I think it may have been difficult going to another country but it's been good coming to England. It has gone very fast and I think that has helped because you have to get on with things and I have really enjoyed it. Hartlepool is a very open club to come to and I've been very lucky in that way and it's been easy to settle."

E is for English football

"I think it's more physical at times in England and the game is played more direct. It is still physical in Norway but more so over here although overall it's not too different. When I first arrived it went very well for me but I think it is normal for it to start like that and then have a bit of a down period. Now I have to concentrate on getting back and doing my best."

D is for Debut at MK Dons

"I was very excited about the game when I knew I was in the team. When I first joined the Club it was in Holland for pre-season and things went well. It's always special to play in the first game of a new season especially in a great stadium like MK Dons. It was a big moment in my career so far."

R is for Round of Golf

"I haven't managed to play as much I'd have liked since I came over to England. The weather is getting quite good now though so perhaps I will get out again. I went with Leon McSweeney a couple of times and I've been watching the Masters this week on the television though I expected Tiger Woods to win!"

I is for In The Kitchen

"When I was at home in Norway I didn't like to cook too much and my girlfriend did a lot of that. But when I came over to England I had to fend for myself which has meant looking in Asda for ideas on what to make! From time to time, I'll go out to eat with the other players who live nearby me."

K is for Kameraten (Norwegian for Pals)

"When I was back in Norway I liked to go out fishing with my friends and went more or less every weekend when I could. It's a popular thing in Norway which we liked and sometimes we'd also go hunting for ducks."

S is for Superstitions

"I don't really have anything superstitious like that; I just try to keep focussed. I don't have to be the last man out of the tunnel or anything, I don't really believe in stuff like that."

E is for Engaged

"I got engaged to my girlfriend on Christmas Eve. We've been together for around eight years and we're planning to get married in the summer of 2011."

N is for Nicknames

"When I was back in Norway the only real nickname I had was 'Jonny' but since I've come over to England I have a new one! I don't really know who came up with it but I get called 'Freddy', which I don't mind and I suppose it's quite funny."
