League One Survival Creates New Record

Posted on: Mon 10 May 2010

When the team secured League One safety with a 0-0 draw at Brentford on Saturday they also set a new Club record in the process.

Survival in the third tier means that Pools will be preparing for a fourth consecutive season in League One - the longest run at this level in the Club's entire history.

Since the inception of the Football League in 1922, Pools have been promoted four times and in total have spent ten seasons outside of the bottom division.

Prior to survival this term, the longest run at this level came following promotion at the end of the 2002/2003 campaign.

After that, Pools spent two successful seasons in League One, reaching the play-off semi-finals in 2003/2004 and going one better by getting to the Final in 2004/2005.

However, the Club succumbed to relegation on the last day of the following season and fell back down to League Two.

Automatic promotion back to League One was secured at the first attempt though, and now Pools have survived for their longest period ever at this level.
