Turner: We'll Relish Southampton Test

Posted on: Mon 22 Mar 2010

Chris Turner is hoping Pools can build on the point gained at Tranmere on Friday night when they travel to Southampton on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off).

Pools ground out a draw at Prenton Park to halt a nine-game losing sequence on the road and CT has now set his sights on bringing home some points from St Mary's.

"I'm looking forward to going there and so are the players," he told us.

"As a club we've not been to Southampton before and they have some excellent players so we know it will be a big test.

"But just like we have at Charlton, Norwich and Leeds we'll be looking to put in a strong performance and hopefully this time get some reward for that."

The Saints roared to a 3-0 win at MK Dons on Saturday thanks to Rickie Lambert's second half hat-trick at stadium:mk, which took his tally for the season to 30.

And Turner knows that one of the main tasks that face his side is keeping the division's top scorer quiet at St Mary's on Tuesday night.

"Rickie's a fine striker at this level - Southampton paid a lot of money for him and you get what you pay for," he commented.

"Both he and Lee Barnard are a threat but we're up for the battle and we'll be going all out to get a positive result from the game."
