A charity event has been deemed a huge success after almost 200 packed in to the Best Western Grand Hotel to see television star Ricky Tomlinson on Thursday night.

Tomlinson was joined by Liverpool comedian Gary Skyner on a night hosted by Alan Wright, which certainly lived up to its billing with plenty of laughs and adult conversation.

The funds raised from the evening are to be split between CLIMBS (Congenital Limbless and Impaired Mobility Benevolent Society) and the Club's Youth Development Department.

"It was a really enjoyable night and despite a few technical problems I think everyone who went had a great time," said Pools Chief Executive Russ Green.

"Gary (Skyner) is a very enthusiastic fund-raiser and kept everyone entertained, and I was very impressed with what Ricky (Tomlinson) had to say as well.

"Hopefully we can organise more events like this in the future and help raise some more money for worthy causes of this nature."
