Turner Adopts Patient Approach On Brown

Posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010

Chris Turner has moved to calm expectations after James Brown made a scoring return to action for the Reserves on Wednesday afternoon.

The talented striker has been out of action for over two months but twice in three minutes after coming off the bench in the Reserves' 6-1 thumping of Scunthorpe at Victoria Park.

And despite being delighted with the progress Brown had made since undergoing knee surgery in early December, Turner is cautious about getting too excited.

"James did what he's best at and scored two quality goals yesterday but he is a long way off starting in the First Team," he explained.

"Training is easier than playing - when you're actually playing in games, it's a lot quicker and you have to be a lot sharper.

"It takes a lot out of you when you haven't played in two or three months and it is going to take him a while.

"We will only use James at the right time and when it is right for his career - that is more important than one Saturday afternoon.

"We will make sure we don't push him too early and jeopardise the rest of the season. It is important he is used at the right time when he is ready.

"He does need games under his belt but we will drip feed them; we all need to be patient.

"It was important we got the game on yesterday to get him some minutes in competitive action and the goals will have given him confidence.

"Now we need to see how he reacts to those twenty five minutes before we decide what we do next."
