David Foley was at The Vic this morning to finalise his move away from the Club.
With an opportunity having arisen to play in the US League for the Puerto Rico Islanders, the forward was keen to find out more,
"When my agent spoke to me and said there was interest from this team who had watched me a couple of times in the Reserves, I was interested.
"I hadn't played this season and so I wasn't confident of being here next year so I pulled Chris and told him about it all.
"We both agreed that the move would be a good one for me if it happened and he said he would sort it out for me at this end and here we are now - it's all done and dusted this end."
The twenty-two year old plans to fly out to the Caribbean within the next couple of weeks for what is a massive change in lifestyle - but one he is looking forward to,
"Pre season starts on March 15th, and the season starts in April and they play in the US League, which is one below the MLS.
"I have spoken to the manager and he told me they got into the play off semi final last year and they are one of the favourites for promotion this year.
"I played in the Dallas Cup twice and I loved it - I can't even describe how good it is over there unless you have been; the lifestyle is unbelievable.
"There's a few of the lads who have been at Pools who have gone over to play College football in America but I will still be classed as a professional footballer - they are a professional club."
Looking back on his eight years at the Club and Foley has many good memories.
His career with the First Team got off to a very early start when he made his debut against Port Vale aged just 16 years and 44 days - making him the youngest player ever to turn out for the Club,
"That's a nice record to have - I hope it stands for a while at least.
"My debut was a good day but I think I was too young to really understand what was going on.
"I think my biggest high point with the Club was the Stoke City game, which definitely has to be at the top."
Finally, Foley was keen to thank some of the friends he has made during his time with Pools,
"I'd like to thank Chris Turner and the staff at the Club for helping me make this move happen.
"I will always have a thing for Hartlepool now - this is all I have known since I left school.
"I am leaving the Club but not on bad terms by any means, I will look out for the results. I've made some very good friends over the years both on and off the pitch and I'll be keeping in touch with them.
"I'd also like to thank the fans for their support during my time at the Club and to wish Pools all the best."
