David Foley has today been released from his contract with Hartlepool United.

The 22-year-old approached Chris Turner with the request to cancel his contract with Pools due to an opportunity that had arisen in America.

And, keen to see Foley take a step to further his career, the Club have agreed to his request.

The pacy forward joined the Club at Under 16 level in 2002, progressing through to the Youth Team the following year and turning professional in 2006.

Foley became the youngest ever player to appear for Pools when Neale Cooper brought him off the bench against Port Vale in 2003 when he was aged just 16 years and 44 days - a record which still stands today.

Used predominantly as a substitute during his time at The Vic it was in cup competitions that Foley seemed to prosper most.

Last season he was on target as Pools almost shocked then Premier League West Brom in the Carling Cup and he also scored a spectacular long-range goal to help seal the stunning FA Cup win over top flight outfit Stoke City

Everyone at the Club would like to thank David for his services and wish him the best of luck with his future career.
