Time To Make Our Chances Count - Turner

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

Chris Turner has insisted that his side will show no fear when they take on promotion-chasing Leeds United at Victoria Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Pools have so far put in some aggressive attacking performances against the top teams in League One without much reward in terms of results.

And Turner insists that the time is now for the players to deliver a match-winning performance in front of a big crowd at The Vic.

"We're all really looking forward to it," he told us.

"Leeds are a massive club but we played the top of the league club in Norwich last week and put in a really good performance.

"It's just about time we went and beat one of those teams at the top of the league - we have nearly been there several times.

"We will take the game to Leeds just as we did at Norwich last weekend and we will go in on the front foot and look to get the victory that we require.

"We want a cup tie atmosphere, we want to recapture what we used to get every week and you can't get more excited about a game than playing at home to Leeds United in League One.

"Every time we have played against Leeds we have given a good account of ourselves - only a few weeks ago we played them at Elland Road in front of 30,000 fans and we put in a good performance.

"I can see no reason why we should fear them coming here and we don't."

Turner says that the determination in the squad has been evident in recent weeks despite some missed chances costing Pools points both at home and away.

And he has urged the squad to keep their mood positive as they move in to a crucial stage of the campaign.

"We have just being putting into the players all the positive things that we have been doing in recent games and we need to eliminate the mistakes that have been happening each game," he explained.

"We need to finish off the chances we have been creating and we can beat anyone in this league.

"We have shown in the past that we can play against these teams and compete - now we need to show we can beat them."
