The fourth in our feature for the season sees us find out more about Gary Liddle who has been outstanding in the heart of defence so far this season.
This article was first published in the Club's Official Matchday Programme Never Say Die.
G is for Goals
"I scored a couple of free-kicks a few seasons ago and two goals at Peterborough when we won 5-3. The game after that I scored at Grimsby too but I think my best goal so far came at home when we beat Tranmere 3-1 at Victoria Park."
A is for Arriving at Pools
"I remember getting a call from my agent telling me about Hartlepool's interest and then I had a meeting with Danny Wilson and Chris Turner at a local hotel. I was impressed with what they had to say and it was all fairly straightforward so I had no hesitation in signing for the Club."
R is for Riverside Stadium
"My main memories from my time at Middlesbrough are from playing in the Reserves and also in the FA Youth Cup. We came runners-up one season and then went on to win it in 2004. I think I'll get a bit of stick from the lads about mentioning that because they reckon it's all I talk about!"
Y is for Your best mate in football?
"Obviously I grew up with a lot of players at Middlesbrough and I still keep in regular touch with a few of them, the likes of Adam Johnson, Andrew Taylor and Jonathan Grounds."
L is for Life away from football
"I just enjoy spending time with my friends really and we'll have a night out whenever our schedule of games will allow. I like going to the cinema and, like any other young lad, I will spend a bit of time playing on the Play Station!"
I is for Instruments
"I don't really play and instruments and never really had the urge to learn to play one. I sing in the shower if that counts?!"
D is for Defender
"I think I was put back in to defence due to injuries and did quite well there during pre season. It's something that's stuck with me and I'm enjoying it at the moment. I've been told that I need a few more bumps and bruises to be a proper centre-back or wear a short-sleeved shirt at least - but it's too cold for that really!"
D is for Driving
"I've just bought a new bright white vehicle over the summer and I'm quite in to my cars to be honest. I have had a 3 series BMW but swapped that for an X6. I'm getting a bit of stick off the lads for it because it's white but I really like it so that's all that counts!"
L is for Life without football
"To be honest, if I wasn't a footballer I would probably have followed my other friends on to College and University. I don't really know what I'd have studied but probably something to do with sport, whether it be Physiotherapy of Sports Science."
E is for Entertainer
"There are a few who are the entertainers in the squad. I'd say the main one is Andy Monkhouse who never seems to have a quiet day. He hurls abuse at anyone and everyone, whether they deserve it or not! Denis Behan is another who is loud and has a lot to say for himself, especially on the gambling table - though he gambling technique is under question as a lot of the lads think he cheats!"
