Youth Team Through To Third Round
Pools Youth Team made it through to the Third Round of the FA Youth Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win at NottsCounty's Meadow Lane.
Micky Barron's men dominated proceedings for the most part, creating several good opportunities to score and limiting their hosts to very few opportunities on goal.
The goals both arrived in the second half - Anthony Wakefield was tumbled by the keeper inside the area and, although Daniel Johnson's spot kick was saved, the referee adjudged that the keeper had moved too soon and Chay Liddle fired home the retaken penalty.
On 76 minutes the win was made safe when Under 16 Callum Wilson came off the bench to score with his first touch from Billy Blackford's deep cross.
"I was very pleased with the performance and we thoroughly deserved the win," said Micky Barron.
"We had numerous chances to have got further goals but perhaps lacked a little composure at certain times.
"I was always confident that the lads would go on to win the game and I was extremely pleased with how we were at the back."
Pools will now face Sheffield United at Victoria Park in the next round with dates to be confirmed.
