Pools Youth Team went down to a 3-0 defeat against high-flying York City at Chester-le-Street on Saturday morning.
Micky Barron's youngsters rarely clicked in to gear or performed to the standards set so far this season and City took full advantage to secure the three points.
Pools suffered an early blow when young full-back Dylan Purvis was forced off through injury and it wasn't long before York exploited this re-shuffle to go ahead.
Tom Marron's pass gave Lee Mason the chance to equalise but he fired wide and the young striker also sent a header off-target after Callum Martin's cross.
Pools pressed well at the start of the second half, putting some good deliveries in to the box but nobody could get on the end of them to level the scores.
And City then pounced to double their lead when Pools failed to effectively clear their lines from a set-piece and the visitors were able to convert.
Marron had a chance to reduce the deficit with ten minutes remaining but his header went too high, before York sealed the win by hitting Pools with a third goal on the counter-attack.
"It was a disappointing result and a disappointing performance really," Barron admitted afterwards.
"Too many of our players were below par and when you're up against a team as strong as York then you can be made to pay for that.
"There are certain things we will look to work on but we know we have to be better on Tuesday when we play in the FA Youth Cup at Notts County."
