Pools' Youth Team saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end in Saturday's home game with Grimsby Town.

In a below-par first half for Micky Barron's team, Grimsby Town took a two-goal lead - both from crosses into the box which were not dealt with.

With the damage being done for Pools in the first half, there was a lot of work to be done after the break.

And Barron's side did step things up in the second half, playing more to the form expected from them this term.

Pools got a goal back on the hour mark when a corner ball was headed down by Jack Sharples for Daniel Johnson to turn and fire home.

Barron changed formation to a 4-2-1-3 to really try and force the equaliser but despite creating some good openings, Pools were denied and were consigned to defeat.

Youth Team Coach Barron was in philosophical mood after the game,

"To be honest, we were poor in the first half, we weren't closing people down - we just looked a little bit tired and a little bit jaded after the games we have had recently.

"To be fair to them, particularly my six or seven lads from the Youth Team who have played every game so far, I think this was maybe just one game too far.

"Thankfully there is now light at the end of the tunnel with our injured players who should be stepping back up shortly."
