Pools Youth Team were held to a 1-1 draw by Scunthorpe United at Chester-le-Street on Saturday as their unbeaten run stretched to seven games.
Micky Barron's men made a bright start to the game and almost went ahead inside sixty seconds when Daniel Johnson forced a good save from the visiting keeper.
Pools kept their opponents on the back foot in the opening exchanges and the Scunthorpe keeper was kept busy in an energetic first quarter of an hour.
However, despite bossing the opening period Pools were hit by a sucker-punch on the stroke of half time by Scunthorpe broke forward to score with their first real attack and took a 1-0 lead in to the break.
Barron's men responded well after the break with Chay Liddle and Daniel Johnson both going close before Pools did manage to get themselves back on level terms.
And when the goal arrived it was worth the wait as an excellent diagonal pass from Johnson found Anthony Wakefield who got the better of his marker to head back across the keeper and in to the net.
Pools immediately set about finding the winner but Jordan Richards saw a header well saved, while Wakefield was also frustrated by the keeper after going through one-on-one.
The chances kept coming and going for Pools and in the end they had to be satisfied with a point against a Scunthorpe side who remain just below them in the Youth Alliance League.
"We started very brightly and were on top for the majority of the game," commented Barron.
"I think on another day we could have definitely won because once again we created a lot of decent chances to have scored more goals.
"Overall, I was pleased with the performance once again as we did have three Under 16s in our starting line-up due to the ongoing injury situation," he added.
