Chris Turner admitted he was pleased that the changes he made to his starting line-up had the right effect after a convincing 3-0 win over Walsall at Victoria Park.

Andy Monkhouse helped himself to two well-taken goals and then substitute Colin Larkin's lob rounded off a good afternoon as Pools recorded their first home victory of the campaign.

"When you make changes to your team you want to see a reaction and I think overall we played very well," Turner told Pools Player.

"We looked to have more confidence and flair going forward and I was very pleased with the way the lads went about it from the off today.

"James Brown gave their full-back a torrid time, Ritchie Humphreys used his experience well in midfield and I thought Neil Austin played confidently at the back and going forward.

"We've been trying to encourage Andy Monkhouse to get in the box more and he did that today and thankfully he got his rewards for that.

"Adam Boyd and Denis Behan worked tirelessly in testing conditions and then I thought Armann Bjornsson and Colin Larkin did excellently when they came on - Colin's goal was a fantastic finish."
