Pools have swooped to complete a sensational deal to bring Armann Bjornsson to Victoria Park from Norwegian Premier League side SK Brann.

The Icelandic international flew in to England today and successfully passed a medical before putting pen to paper on a contract prior to this evening's Carling Cup tie with Burnley.

Chris Turner has made no secret of his scouting arm in Norway and the arrival of highly-rated Bjornsson marks another breakthrough following the signing of Jon-Andre Fredriksen earlier in the summer.

The 6ft 5ins 28-year-old can play either in the centre of defence or in attack and has featured four times for his native Iceland scoring one goal.

Bjornsson has been handed squad number 26 and will go straight in to contention for this weekend's League One encounter with Norwich City at The Vic.
