Youth Team Lose Out At Chesterfield

Posted on: Mon 24 Aug 2009

Pools Youth Team lost out 2-0 at Chesterfield on Saturday morning.

After last week dominating proceedings in an entertaining 5-4 win over Mansfield Town, Micky Barron's side failed to really get going on Saturday.

It took Pools twenty minutes to really settle into the game and have their first shot on goal - Jordan Richards shooting over the bar.

With the half hour mark approaching, Barron's side could well have taken the lead when a good effort from Anthony Wakefield was blocked into the path Daniel Johnson five yards out - but his punt was cleared off the line.

Johnson had another shot saved late in the first half after a good ball from Chay Liddle set him through on goal.

The second half started poorly for Pools as Chesterfield snatched the opener just after the re-start - a long ball caught the defence out and the resulting clearance was fired in from close range.

And the second goal followed for the hosts shortly after - this time a cross into the box went unchallenged and Chesterfield capitalised to hit home.

Pools plugged away for an opening and Liddle went very close with a freekick just before the hour mark while Callum Wilson had a good effort turned around the post.

Barron's side continued to push forward to the end but could not find the opening to get back into the game and will go into next Saturday's match with Burton Albion looking to bounce back.
