Chris Turner has called for the defensive work ethic, organisation and commitment to continue after seeing his side keep their second consecutive clean sheet at Coventry on Wednesday night.

Pools have now gone 210 minutes without conceding at the start of the new season - the first time the team have recorded back to back clean sheets since last October.

And you have to go back to the midst of the record-breaking sequence of shut-outs during the 2006/2007 promotion season to find the last time Pools have kept two consecutive clean sheets on the road.

"It's down to organisational work on the training ground and every player knowing his specific job in the team," Turner explained.

"It starts with the strikers because if they are lazy and don't work then it puts pressure on the midfield and then the back four, and that's when chances open up for the opposition.

"Every week it's repetitive work on the training ground to ensure everyone know what they should be doing in certain situations.

"In pre season people were getting frustrated when we conceded goals against Cambuur, Volendam, York and Sheffield Wednesday.

"But we never really had the full team out there and there were a few knocks and niggles to contend with along the way too.

"The confidence has come from the first day at MK Dons when we limited them to very few chances and we carried that in to Wednesday's game - now we need to build on that again.

"It's about building the spirit we've had at the Club in previous seasons - we need the fans' commitment, the players' commitment and if we can intertwine that then we'll be getting somewhere."
