Performance Was Important Thing - Turner

Posted on: Thu 30 Jul 2009

Chris Turner was happy to see his side record a 2-1 victory over Gateshead on Wednesday night but said there was plenty of room for improvement.

The Director of Sport was without several squad members due to injury but paid credit to the Tynesiders for a strong performance and a competitive game.

"I'm not too concerned about the win, it was more about the individual and team performances," Turner told Pools Player.

"I thought Gateshead played well and we came up against some very good Conference players on the night.

"I'm pleased but you'd like to have the full squad available at this point - but they're not, we've got a few niggles at the moment and that gives me concern."

Turner was boosted by the return to action of James Brown who played in his first game since rupturing his cruciate ligament in November.

And although he was only introduced as a second half substitute, the 22-year-old was quick to show what Pools have been missing over the last eight months.

"James Brown was only on for about twenty-five minutes but what a player.

"He can hold the ball up, he won his headers, he goes past people and he makes a massive difference for us so it's great to see him back."
