We Need To Step Things Up Admits Turner

Posted on: Tue 28 Jul 2009

Chris Turner has urged his squad to up the tempo after they fell to a fourth successive pre season defeat at York City on Friday night.

A positive first half performance from Pools was undone by some unsure play after the break which resulted in the hosts claiming a 2-0 victory.

And after the game CT called on his players to step up to the mark with the League One season just a fortnight away.

"I just didn't think we looked like scoring in the game," Turner told Pools World.

"I thought in the first half the re-shuffled back four looked good; Peter Hartley was solid at left-back, Gary Liddle and Sam Collins were strong in the centre as was Neil Austin on the right.

"Once Sam went with a slight hamstring problem I think we looked less sure, which is understandable but we settled at half time.

"We're a long way short at this moment in time and we've got two weeks to crack on with hopefully James Brown back involved next week which will add something.

"I think at the moment one or two players don't seem to realise that the season is just around the corner and aren't quite up to the mark and fell short against York."
