Time To Toughen Up Insists Turner

Posted on: Fri 24 Jul 2009

Pools travel to face York City at the Kit Kat Stadium tonight (7.30pm kick-off) for the latest pre season friendly test ahead of the new League One campaign.

Chris Turner's men will be hoping for another good workout against a City side managed by former Port Vale boss Martin Foyle who took over at the Club last October.

It will be Pools fourth game of the pre season so far having already enjoyed encounters with FC Volendam and SC Cambuur in Holland, and Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

Last term Pools also went to Kit Kat Crescent in the warm-up for the season but a City side inspired by Scunthorpe-bound Martyn Woolford secured a 1-0 victory.

York finished 17th in the Blue Square Premier Division in the 2008/2009 campaign, but will be hoping to improve on that this time round.

They've already enjoyed some encouraging pre season results, drawing 3-3 with a Leeds United side earlier in July and, after defeat Bradford City, hit back with a 6-1 thumping of North Ferriby Town.

"It will be a different sort of game to our previous fixtures," Chris Turner commented.

"We've played three teams from a higher class but I think the games we're coming in to now will be more of the type of football we'll come up against in League One.

"It will be more of a battling game and I think it's all about hardening us up now in readiness for the new season," he added.

The game kicks-off at 7.30pm and we'll have a full report on the final whistle here on the Official Website.
