Owls Clash Will Be Good Test For Us - CT

Posted on: Thu 23 Jul 2009

Pools play host to their first and only home pre season friendly tonight when Sheffield Wednesday are the visitors to Victoria Park (7.30pm kick-off).

After a successful workout in Holland last week, Chris Turner will be looking forward to some domestic friendlies to ensure his side are in peak condition as they enter the new League One campaign.

The majority of the squad got minutes under their belts during the games with FC Volendam and SC Cambuur in the Netherlands, and Turner will continue to focus on fitness rather than results for the rest of the warm-up matches.

"In Sheffield Wednesday we have a team who are a league above us but at the same level of preparation as we are," explained Turner.

"This is their first game on English soil this pre season so it will be a good challenge and a good game for both teams.

"Once again I am sure there will be a high change over of players during and after half time but that's crucial at this stage to increase fitness levels.

"I am sure the new players we've brought in will be looking forward to playing at The Vic and the fans will be looking forward to seeing them in action.

"We've had a couple of good games and lots of good training over in Holland and I think the players are gelling well so hopefully we'll see them in a good light this evening.

"The result is not important really, but the performance definitely is tonight," he added.

Tickets are available from the Ticket Office from 1pm today and will also be available on the turnstiles prior to kick-off - click here for full details.
