We'll Be In Safe Hands This Term - Turner

Posted on: Wed 15 Jul 2009

Chris Turner has backed Scott Flinders to become a popular figure at Victoria Park after the new goalkeeper made his debut in Monday's friendly against FC Volendam.

The 6ft 4ins stopper was signed during the summer following his release from Crystal Palace and Turner is pleased with the way that he has slotted in to life at Pools.

Last season there was some criticism of goalkeepers Arran Lee-Barrett and Jan Budtz but this term CT reckons Pools will be in safe hands with Flinders.

"Scott played his first game for the Club on Monday night and I thought he did extremely well," Turner commented.

"He made some very good saves, especially in the second half, and he also went in bravely at people's feet in a couple of situations.

"It's always difficult when you've never played with the people in front of you but he's learning fast and I'm sure as every game goes by the understanding will grow."

Flinders is working alongside Mark Cook and under the watchful eye of new Goalkeeping Coach Gary Walsh who is working them hard during pre season.

And Turner says the arrival of Walsh has proved to have a positive impact following the departure of George Wood to Swindon Town.

"Obviously it was a blow to lose George but I can't speak highly enough of the job that Gary has done since he came in.

"He's settled straight in to the role and is working hard with the keepers so I am sure he is going to be a real asset for the Club in the coming years."
