Glad To Be On Board - Walsh

Posted on: Wed 01 Jul 2009

Gary Walsh met up with the Pools players for the first time this morning and admitted he was looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Pools new Goalkeeping Coach was at Manchester United with Director of Sports Chris Turner between the years of 1985 - 88 and he admitted the lure of working with Turner again was a big draw,

"I'll be working part time for the Club and I'm just really looking forward to working with the gaffer.

"We were teammates a long time ago, about twenty odd years ago at Manchester United.

"Working with Chris again was one of the reasons I came to Hartlepool, as well as to get back working again."

Since leaving his post as Goalkeeping Coach at Derby County earlier this year, Walsh has been kept busy but he admits he is looking forward to getting back into the swing of things with Pools.

"I've done a little bit of work with Liverpool Academy which was good and a bit of scouting for Blackburn Rovers but what I really enjoy is working with the First Team day in, day out and I'm looking forward to that."

And while there were plenty of new faces for Walsh to get to know at the training ground this morning - Scott Flinders was not one of them,

"When I was Goalkeeping Coach at Wigan Scott came in then for a week and trained with us then.

"He is a very very good keeper, he just needs to bet settled at one club.

"He has moved about a bit in the past but he needs the chance to give it a good go at one club.

"Technically he is very good, size-wise he is ideal and I'm just looking forward to working with him and with Cooky (Mark Cook) as well.

"It's just a case of training and getting a good relationship with them both."
