As a player, Walsh started out at Old Trafford, where he remained between the years of 1985 and 1995 before moving on to Middlesbrough, then BradfordCity and finally ended his career at Wigan Athletic in 2005/06.

It was while at Wigan that he took up the role of Goalkeeping Coach under the management of Paul Jewell, then moving on to join Jewell at Derby County in January 2008 where he remained in place until Nigel Clough arrived at the beginning of 2009.

Walsh will join up with the Pools squad for pre season training this morning.
