Happy To Be Here - Scott Flinders

Posted on: Fri 26 Jun 2009

Scott Flinders spoke to Pools World this afternoon after putting pen to paper on his new deal with Pools.

And the big keeper revealed he is keen to get started on the next chapter of his career,

"I've had a bit of interest from a few clubs but I'm happy to be signing for Hartlepool, it's going to be a good step for me to move on in my career.

"I came and had a look round the club and I was really impressed with what I saw and the plans that are in place for the season ahead and beyond."

And Flinders revealed one of the biggest pulls for him at Pools would be the opportunity to work with Chris Turner,

"One of the main things is Chris Turner being a goalkeeper himself and to get advice from him in training and after games.

"I see the coaching from Monday to Friday as really important and now I'm just looking forward to the start of the season and getting cracking."

The former Crystal Palace man is under no illusions as to how hard the league will be next term but he is looking for a good start with his new team,

"This is going to be a tough league, especially with sides who have come down from the Championship but we have new players who have come in and they will all have to something to play for so hopefully we'll gel quickly and work to get that first win at MK Dons away."

And when asked what he'll bring to Pools next term, Flinders was quite clear with his strengths,

"I'm a good talker, I like to take crosses and I'd like to think I'm a good shot stopper and the main thing for keepers is clean sheets - giving bit of confidence to the team."
