Delighted To Have Got Our Man - CT
Chris Turner spoke to hartlepoolunited.co.uk this afternoon from his holiday location to speak of his delight at having sealed the signing of former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Scott Flinders.
Having been without a first choice keeper since the end of the last campaign, Turner has been working hard to secure the services of a new stopper.
"I am delighted that we have signed a goalkeeper with tremendous potential, which was obviously shown during his time at Barnsley when Crystal Palace paid a large fee for him," Turner told hartlepoolunited.co.uk.
"He has also represented his country at Under 20 level and we have been trying to get him for most of the summer.
"I'm delighted we have got our man."
And Turner revealed that Flinders has joined the Club as number one and will be the man to lead the back line next term,
"We have brought Scott in to our number one keeper for next season.
"We have also got young Mark Cook here who is learning his trade and we have high hopes for them both.
"I am just delighted to have got a keeper of Scott's quality into the Club."
Turner has made no secret of the fact that he wanted a major overhaul of Pools' defence after the problems of last term and is pleased to get the next piece in his jigsaw,
"We will have a practically new back four and now a new keeper for next season.
"We all know that last season a massive problem of ours was that we conceded too many goals and I believe that we need to build from the back to improve this and Scott is a major part of that."
And the Director of Sport has vowed that there Flinders will not be the last new face to arrive at The Vic before the new season,
"This will not be the end of the signings for the summer.
"We still have one or two irons in the fire and we're hoping they will come to fruition.
"When I return to the office next week we will carry on and see where we go with those - but I can't see this being the end of the summer signings."
