George Wood Leaves For Swindon Town

Posted on: Fri 19 Jun 2009

George Wood is set to be confirmed as the new Goalkeeping Coach at Swindon Town after deciding to leave Victoria Park.

The former Arsenal and Everton keeper has been with Pools for three seasons but has made the decision to move on and join the Robins.

Wood, who has a house in South Wales, is set to once again link-up with boss Danny Wilson who brought him to the Club in 2006.

"We're disappointed that George has left the Club but we understand the logistics behind him moving to Swindon," Chris Turner explained.

"He leaves with our very best wishes because we've all enjoyed working with him and appreciated his expertise over the time he's been here.

"We've known for a while that George was leaving so we've been making moves to replace him and we're confident of bringing somebody to the Club who has experience of working at the highest level."

The 56-year-old enjoyed a playing career which spanned 27 years during which time he appeared in more than 750 games and was capped four times by Scotland.

We'll have all the news on a replacement for Wood as soon as any details are confirmed.
