Latest Pitch Update From The Vic

Posted on: Tue 02 Jun 2009

The Victoria Park pitch is starting to look more like its old self this afternoon as the hard work that started as soon as the season finished starts to show through.

The pitch work began soon after the Leeds United game at the end of April and Head Groundsman Dave Brown and his team have been hard at work ever since.

With the top surface of the pitch having been worked on, there is now a good showing of fresh grass on show.

While it was rain that hampered proceedings early on in the pitch work, Dave Brown reveals the recent windy weather meant more work for the groundstaff,

"The high winds we had a week or so ago blew a lot of the seed away so we had to put some more seed down last Friday.

"Other than that though the work is going to schedule and we've cut it four or five times now.

"It's had three feeds now, which means we've given it the fertiliser which provides the nutrients young seeds need to grow.

"We only seeded it five weeks ago and we'll just keep watering it, feeding and cutting it to make sure it is ready for our first game here on July 21st."
