Pools Set To Pass 10,000 Mile Barrier
Pools are set to face their most arduous fixture list ever in terms of travelling during the 2009/2010 season.
Based on figures for journeys from ground to ground, Pools can look forward to seeing a lot of their Team Coach in the coming months as they cover over 10,000 miles for the first time in their history.
Charlton Athletic, Norwich City and Southampton all arrived from the Championship following their relegation and add a whopping 1,604 miles to the round trip total.
We've also seen Brentford, Exeter City and Wycombe Wanderers come up from League Two - three journeys that contribute a fuel tank draining 1,732 miles to the sum.
Scunthorpe and Gillingham's success in the play-offs only made matters worse for Pools and the Club will now be looking at round trips totalling an astonishing 10.556 miles.
And Pools will be hoping the high mileage doesn't act as a bad omen, because the two seasons that currently sit top of the rankings in terms of distance travelled (1968/1969 and 1993/1994) have both ended in relegation.
Pools had played in Division Three (North) until 1958 but from then until this current time, the stats show that there have been 207,244 miles travelled - that works out 81 miles for ever point gained during that time!
