Michael Mackay has outlined his determination to take the next step in his career with Pools after signing a new contract keeping him at Victoria Park.

The front man has been utilised mainly as a substitute since his arrival from Consett in February 2007 but has done enough to warrant a new deal.

Now the 26-year-old is intent on repaying the faith shown in him by the Club's hierarchy by proving he can be an asset at League One level.

"I'm very happy here at Hartlepool and I'm delighted to sign a new contract," he told us.

"It's a lot different playing in League football from where I came from but I do feel as if I am getting used to the way of things and can go on from here.

"I know I need to get better and there are things I need to improve on if I am to become a regular in the First Team but I'm determined to work hard to achieve that.

"I feel as if I have become a better player since joining the Club and have more experience now but there is more to come.

"Chris has told me he has seen an improvement in my training and I think he's happy with my scoring record for the Reserves.

"Now I know I just need to put it all together and work hard to gain a place in the First Team."
