Pools Youth Team got back on track at the weekend with a strong 1-0 win over Boston United in the Youth Alliance League.

Micky Barron's men were looking to recover from their 4-0 defeat to York City last week and they registered a much-improved performance to take all three points.

Pools controlled the play and were the better side for much of the game, though they struggled to create any clear-cut chances during the opening half.

However, they came out more positive after the break and almost took the lead through Andy Charlton but his shot in the opening minute of the second half went just wide.

Paul Johnson had a couple of half chances to score from corners as Pools continued to press the hosts back in to their own half.

The pressure finally told when Lee Mason volleyed in a fine goal from close range after a ball in to the box had caused chaos in the home side's defence.

Mason almost doubled his tally just a minute later but he headed Jak Quantrill's cross against a post, while at the other end Boston rarely threatened the Pools goal and Barron's men went on to clinch the points.

"It was a much better performance and I'm pleased with the lads," he told us afterwards.

"We played a slightly different formation to try and freshen things up and I think it worked because it was a very bright display from all of the players.

"I was just as pleased with the clean sheet as I was with the win; we were solid at the back and never looked like conceding."
