Pools Youth Team fell to a disappointing 4-0 defeat on Saturday as York City left Chester-le-Street with all three points.

After taking a creditable point from a 1-1 draw during their midweek visit to high-flying Hull, Micky Barron's side were brought back down to earth with a bump.

"We looked sluggish really and nowhere near as sharp as we did at Hull," Barron conceded afterwards.

"After playing so well in midweek we were all on a high going in to the game with York, so it's a disappointing result for us obviously.

The first goal came from a corner-kick, while a second was added with a good finish from the edge of the box.

Jordan Mellish was harshly adjudged to have handballed when a shot was crashed at him from close range and from the resultant penalty York made it 3-0.

And the final goal also came from the spot when Lee Mason upended a City player in the area and the penalty was tucked away neatly.

"We did quite well in the last twenty minutes of the game but it's really frustrating for us because we can't find that level of consistency," Barron added.

"I've spoken to Chris Turner about it and he's assured me I won't be the only coach up and down the country who is feeling like that about his team.

"They're young and they're learning the game but we have to try and improve on this area of their game."
