Turner Proud After Battling Display

Posted on: Fri 06 Feb 2009

Chris Turner paid tribute to his hard-working players after they battled their way to an impressive point against promotion-chasing Huddersfield Town tonight.

Pools were forced to play the majority of the second half with ten man after Daniel Nardiello was controversially sent off but they held out for a well-deserved share of the spoils.

"I'm very proud of the players tonight but I've been saying for a number of weeks that I can't ask any more of them," he told Pools World.

"They got something out of the game tonight against all the odds - any supporter wants to see players giving commitment and I'll tell you now these players show commitment.

"Tonight I feel they got some reward for the commitment they have showed us over a period of time."

Turner was philosophical about the incident which led to Nardiello's sending-off but revealed that he knew by the reactions of the players what the referee's decision would be.

"It was a ball that I felt Daniel had to go for," he admitted.

"During my career there were endless times when I had to go in a dive at a forward's feet and really that's football, that's goalkeeping.

"The aftermath didn't help with players wanting to get him sent off and going to the referee - I knew then it would be a red card."
