From The Terrace With Phil Dunn
Greetings Poolies! Yes, just when you thought it was safe to visit the Official Site again I'm back from the USA and more importantly, back to watching Pools again after a five-match break. It's actually the longest stretch of HUFC games I've missed since 1971!
Thanks to everyone that kept me in touch via text whilst I was away, you'll be pleased to know that everybody in Cape Canaveral knew that we had gone one up at Carlisle, and that a massive shout went up on The Hulk roller-coaster at Universal Studios when we came back from 2-0 down to go 3-2 up at Brighton!
I've never looked forward to a game as much as this coming Saturday's encounter with MK Dons, especially coming on the back of the news that Kevin Kyle will be back on board following his return on loan from Coventry.
There is a well-used Pools terrace song that goes "Poolies Here, Poolies There" and I can now confirm it's 100% true. Sat waiting for the tremendous Killer Whale Show "Shamu" to start one warm Florida evening last week, my youngest came back from the Concession Stall (that's the beer shop to you!) excitedly informing me that there were some Poolies in the queue. I'd literally just got up out of my seat to check it out when I heard the dulcet tones of Graham Wilson, a Pools fan of some 30 years and our local RAC man, who stands just along from us every match on the Mill House Terrace! Talk about "It's A Small World" - which is another great song...
Then, the very next day, I had my home shirt on in one of the shopping malls off International Drive when an American bloke (or should that be "guy") came up to me and started talking about Jeff Stelling and James Brown!! Apparently this feller had lived over there for eight years in the 90s and had fallen in love with West Brom, hence he watches Soccer Saturday every week on some way-out satellite station waiting for news of The Baggies games. Not only did he know about Jeff and Pools, but he also knew we had knocked them out of the cup earlier this season. Unreal.
Mind you, watching the USA's own domestic "Soccer" on TV late one night it's no wonder they follow the British game, as I was subjected to "Army versus Navy" live, played in front of around 500 people on what looked like a Park Pitch... dude.
Anyway, it's good to be back and this week's Quiz Question (I know you've missed 'em) asks which former Pools striker scored one of his only two goals for the Club against MK Dons in 2005?
Too easy, but I'm jet-lagged so I'll be able to tell you the score of Saturdays match five hours early, at around 12pm in the Mill House Pub!
Have A Nice Game, y'all!
Phil Dunn.
